”It is a problem certainly, that Christmas plum pudding。 There is here something that I do not understand at all。” The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding is a 1960 shorty mystery set at an English country house over Christmas。 The mystery is full of surprises and Poirot’s amusing observations all with a backdrop of holidays festivities。 Poirot anticipates a period of peace and repose alone over Christmas。 However, when a foolish prince has his heirloom ruby stolen by his date, he turns to Poirot ”It is a problem certainly, that Christmas plum pudding。 There is here something that I do not understand at all。” The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding is a 1960 shorty mystery set at an English country house over Christmas。 The mystery is full of surprises and Poirot’s amusing observations all with a backdrop of holidays festivities。 Poirot anticipates a period of peace and repose alone over Christmas。 However, when a foolish prince has his heirloom ruby stolen by his date, he turns to Poirot to retrieve it to avoid a scandal。 Poirot’s investigation leads him to accept an arranged invitation to stay at Kings Lacey, an English country house。 Poirot arrives at the house ablaze with holiday trimmings and guests。 Not to mention the promise of “oil-fired central heating。” Immediately, Mrs。 Lacey presses him to uncover useful information about a man with a poor reputation whom her granddaughter has brought home and plans to marry。 This man brought his convalescing sister too。 Add in three young teens planning a murder show for Poirot and a family friend in love with the granddaughter, and it makes for a lively time。 I loved this mystery。 Poirot was at his delightful best! He was a step ahead everyone and often amusing in his observations。 Although astute readers may guess the identity of the culprit, just know the real story is about how the mystery unfolds, the surprises, and the quite justice served。 After I finished the story, I watched the corresponding film adaption。 Its title is different from the story。 The Theft of the Royal Ruby fell below the book’s quality。 Thankfully, I read the book first or I might have skipped it based on my feelings for the film。 In the film, the house was a modern museum-like place without snow。 It was missing the subtle humor the text held。 The details of the story were moderately altered (and not for the better)。 And the ill-mannered prince had too much screen time; I liked how he was regulated to the very beginning in the book。 My AG favorites are from the golden age period, but this 1960s story matched all the elements I enjoy best。 If you relish an old-fashioned mystery steeped in Christmas traditions and cheer, check this out。 This title is part of the hoopla Bonus Borrows through the month of November。 Note: This title only contains the 53-page mystery, The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding, and it does not have the other short stories reviewer’s mention。 。。。more

Audio BookSuper fun light read!💕
Britt,
Short and sweetThis was a lovely little romp and Christmas flavored story。 I liked the characters。 Even though it was short, it had some fun characters。
Jen Mattew,
Certainly not the best one I've read so far, but it was an okay read 。 All these mention of hypnosis slightly put me off and the usual plot twist which gets the reader baffled was missing in this book and it all seem quite obvious in the ending。 The last two parts are more disappointing and not well laid。 Certainly not the best one I've read so far, but it was an okay read 。 All these mention of hypnosis slightly put me off and the usual plot twist which gets the reader baffled was missing in this book and it all seem quite obvious in the ending。 The last two parts are more disappointing and not well laid。 。。。more

El cuento del pudding muy bueno, no sabemos quien fue en realidad。
Denny,
Saw this book on PBS series。 Remembered general story line but not scene-by-scene presentation。 My sketchy memory was triggered as story proceeded but never enough that I could predict what was next。 Think that will be experience with other Christie works and will always be surprised until finale。
Andree,
Overall, I enjoyed these。 Though I'd read a few before (the Dream and Greenshaw's Folly, also I think I've read the Adventure of the Christmas Pudding itself)。 I'm not sure I've read them all, though。 I did enjoy Poirot in his most "Papa Poirot" mode in the Adventure of the Christmas Pudding。 And I adored Mrs。 Lacey as country matriarch, who subtly shows her granddaughter that she's romantically involved with a jerk, albeit an interesting one。 It has the fun country house atmosphere going for it Overall, I enjoyed these。 Though I'd read a few before (the Dream and Greenshaw's Folly, also I think I've read the Adventure of the Christmas Pudding itself)。 I'm not sure I've read them all, though。 I did enjoy Poirot in his most "Papa Poirot" mode in the Adventure of the Christmas Pudding。 And I adored Mrs。 Lacey as country matriarch, who subtly shows her granddaughter that she's romantically involved with a jerk, albeit an interesting one。 It has the fun country house atmosphere going for it as well。The Mystery of the Spanish Chest, I enjoyed, but it's also a bit depressing。 Margharita Clayton is not a particularly sympathetic character, but then, neither are any of the men in her life, really。The Underdog was fun, but rather predictable (so much so that I thought I must have guessed wrong), and a bit too long。Four-and-Twenty Blackbirds is interesting, and a solid addition。The Dream is short, and a bit odd, but in the end very clever。 And Greenshaw's Folly is a solid Marple short story。 THough I can't help noticing that Raymond West's wife's name changes from Joyce to Joan sometime between this and the Thirteen Problems (wouldn't have noticed but I just read the latter yesterday)。I will say, I've been in a reading slump, but there's always something so very readable about Christie。 (Okay, there are a few exceptions, but they are few and far between, all things considered。) 。。。more

Ich freue mich schon seeeeehr auf den nächsten „richtigen“ Krimi von Agatha Christie, den ich lesen werde (er steht schon im Regal)。。 von Kurzgeschichten lasse ich daweil aber mal die Finger。 。。。more
Jane,
Agatha Christie writes good short stories (or maybe novellas?)。 Her characters are well developed, and her plots are compelling and the ending are satisfying。 This was an enjoyable little compendium。
Zulfiya,
Not bad, just was not particularly engaging。 As I listened to the standalone story, I am not familiar with all the stories in this short anthology。 While I was listening to it, I distinctly remember only one thing - it seemed to me that I was listening to the wild combination of Sherlock Holmes and The adventures of the Blue Carbuncle, some Christmas story by Charles Dickens, and an exotic novel by Wilkie Collins。 After all, there was some relative happy end, and some semblance of closure if it Not bad, just was not particularly engaging。 As I listened to the standalone story, I am not familiar with all the stories in this short anthology。 While I was listening to it, I distinctly remember only one thing - it seemed to me that I was listening to the wild combination of Sherlock Holmes and The adventures of the Blue Carbuncle, some Christmas story by Charles Dickens, and an exotic novel by Wilkie Collins。 After all, there was some relative happy end, and some semblance of closure if it is possible for say so for a smallish novelette。 。。。more

This was a mystery anthology of sorts。 Bunch of stories published together。 I think my favourite was The Dream。 Every case had some element of true genius as is common with Poirot and Agatha Christie。 Honestly, I wasn't surprised that I loved this。 This was a mystery anthology of sorts。 Bunch of stories published together。 I think my favourite was The Dream。 Every case had some element of true genius as is common with Poirot and Agatha Christie。 Honestly, I wasn't surprised that I loved this。 。。。more

Meh。 Not horrible but not great either。 When I first got it, I thought that it was a full length novel but to my surprise it was short stories。 Which, technically, is on me but it made me like it less。
Melissa Vinson,
I wasn’t aware until I started reading this that it is a book of short stories—all featuring Poirot, except for the last story, which features Miss Marple。 I’m not the biggest fan of short stories, but I’ll make an exception when it comes to Agatha Christie!I highly enjoyed each of these stories! One of them seemed very familiar, and as I was reading it, I realized that I have read The Dream before。 Apparently, it is contained in another book of short stories, but I can’t remember which one。 And I wasn’t aware until I started reading this that it is a book of short stories—all featuring Poirot, except for the last story, which features Miss Marple。 I’m not the biggest fan of short stories, but I’ll make an exception when it comes to Agatha Christie!I highly enjoyed each of these stories! 7/20/21 read just titular short story for group readThis was a fun short Christmas mystery! Very cozy feeling, and the plot was fairly interesting。 Some very good quotes in this one, my favorite was ”You know, I like these very tight trousers these young men wear nowadays。 They look so smart - only, of course, it does accentuate knock knees。" This story made me hungry with all the descriptions of the homemade traditional British Christmas dinner。 7/20/21 read just titular short story for group readThis was a fun short Christmas mystery! The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding is a short story collection with five Poirot stories and one Miss Marple。 I almost always enjoy Agatha Christie's short stories and this collection included some really fun ones。 Even with the shorter format, we find her characteristic red herrings and unexpected twists。 If you're just starting out reading her short stories, this would be a perfect selection to start with because there were really no duds。 All of the stories were fun and intriguing。 The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding is a short story collection with five Poirot stories and one Miss Marple。 I almost always enjoy Agatha Christie's short stories and this collection included some really fun ones。 Even with the shorter format, we find her characteristic red herrings and unexpected twists。 If you're just starting out reading her short stories, this would be a perfect selection to start with because there were really no duds。 All of the stories were fun and intriguing。 。。。more

Five stories (+ a Miss Marple story): the title story involves something hidden in the plum pudding showing up in earlier Poirot adventures as well, though this version is a bit more fun。These stories show up in other collections as well。

I actually shelved this lovely little thing as this year's Christmas read but, it’s the Agatha Christie, folks。 And since this is a collection of short stories, it is rather difficult to review, so I reckon I would make a list from which one I fancy the most to the least:1。 The Dream (evokes thoughts on how instead of who)2。 The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding (great christmas mystery tale, might re-read this one in particular on christmas)3。 The Mystery of The Spanish Chest4。 The Under Dog(Q I actually shelved this lovely little thing as this year's Christmas read but, it’s the Agatha Christie, folks。 And since this is a collection of short stories, it is rather difficult to review, so I reckon I would make a list from which one I fancy the most to the least:1。 The Dream (evokes thoughts on how instead of who)2。 The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding (great christmas mystery tale, might re-read this one in particular on christmas)3。 The Mystery of The Spanish Chest4。 The Under Dog(Quite frankly, it's hard to choose between The Mystery of The Spanish Chest and The Underdog, I fond of both equally)6。 Four-and-Twenty-Blackbirds (enjoyed this an awful lot, yet rather too short)7。 Greenshaw’s folly (this also evokes the same feeling as The Dream, only the detective who handles the matter is Miss Jane Marple。 I feel like it feels so out of place seeing her knowing things without interrogating people around just like Monsieur Hercule Poirot usually does)。 。。。more
